This post really made me smile! I tell friends life only gets better as we age. I see you feel that way too. The best thing is not caring what anyone thinks of us.
When I turned 50, I was kind of relieved...and I loved my 50s too. Now I'm well into my 60s, so far that 70 is on the distant horizon and I still don't think I can sing. But after reading this essay, perhaps, the next time there's a karaoke opportunity in my vicinity, I will. xo
When I sing—well, let’s just say I’ve never found a vocal range that is pleasing to the ear. But I’m all in with the thought of belting out “Goodbye, Earl.” That you have found joy in karaoke makes me happy. Why shouldn’t we do things that bring us joy even if we do them imperfectly? Excuse me now. I’m going to play some Carol King, sing along, and hope I’ll hit a right note here and there.
You are the coolest person I know and I love you more than cake! Who said getting older was something to fret about? Not I, said the little red hen! Mwah!

My only words are, "I wish I'd been there." Maybe we'll sing together next year!! Way to have fun!
Wish I was as "old" as you =)

My roommate (a theater major) said I sang "in the cracks" -- no apparent key.

You've almost convinced me to sing in quasi-public, Lori. Almost. 🙂
